Red Iguana is a proud supporter of KRCL 90.9, and here’s why. Through music and stories created for a culturally open-minded community, 90.9 FM KRCL is a catalyst for creating a better, more inclusive, and engaged Utah. They reach listeners with a wide variety of music and community programming. They champion Utah—our music, arts and culture, neighborhoods, and community organizations. KRCL celebrates diversity and encourages community engagement and a strong commitment to a healthy environment—while promoting a positive global identity for Utah.
KRCL plays a distinctive blend of music from alternative rock to reggae, blues to bluegrass, and highlights at least one track by a Utah artist every hour. KRCL believes radio can be a “town square” for a community, a centerpiece of music, cultural, and social happenings. It can also break down barriers and bring people together. KRCL inspires positive change in the community and raises social and environmental awareness by increasing social engagement to create positive change.
“KRCL is a significant, historical, and cultural outpost located in Salt Lake City’s westside and beyond—Red Iguana is too,” says Bill Coker, co-owner of Red Iguana restaurants. “But there are too few examples of that kind of commitment to community—Mestizo Coffee House, MICA, NeighborWorks, YouthWorks, Boys and Girls Club, and west side baseball and soccer leagues. We need every one of them to be strong and to receive our continuing support. They are the fabric of our culture,” Coker added. “Most media today is narrowcast, controlled by large corporate entities. Having a local radio station playing a world-class, wide variety of personally curated music and programming that features important social, political, and community-facing dialogue with guest speakers, is invaluable. We must support our remaining local heroes.”
