🌶✨ Celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day with Chiles en Nogada! 🇲🇽

This September, in honor of Mexico’s Independence Day on September 16, Red Iguana in Salt Lake City is proud to feature one of the most iconic and meaningful dishes in Mexican cuisine: Chiles en Nogada.
What Are Chiles en Nogada?
Chiles en nogada is a dish that’s as rich in history as it is in flavor. Originating in Puebla, this traditional recipe features roasted poblano peppers stuffed with a sweet and savory picadillo made of ground meat, fresh and dried fruits, and warm spices. The peppers are then draped in a velvety walnut-cream sauce, crowned with ruby-red pomegranate seeds, and sprinkled with fresh parsley.
Every plate tells a story—its vibrant colors of green, white, and red reflect the Mexican flag, making it a dish that symbolizes pride, celebration, and tradition.
A Dish Made for Celebration
First created to honor Mexican independence, Chiles en Nogada quickly became a festive centerpiece during September celebrations. Some say it’s Mexico’s true national dish, rivaling even mole for the title. Across the country, families and chefs alike prepare their own unique variations, some adding different fruits, cheeses, or even frying the peppers like chiles rellenos before finishing them with nogada sauce.
No matter the twist, one thing remains true: this is a dish meant to impress and bring people together.
